This series portrays vulnerable children and addresses issues of neglect, abuse, poverty, racism and indifference. I was raised in the Deep South and was taught to respect and value all life. My parents/grandparents were small-business owners in our little town and my siblings and I were expected to help out in various ways. As a young child (and well into my teens), I witnessed first-hand the vast differences in living conditions among the people in our town. It saddened and confused me. As I matured, I began to understand the difficulties that often times come hand in hand with limited resources and opportunities. Today I use my platform as an artist to highlight various social issues in order to evoke an emotional response. I ask viewers to look closely and to contemplate what makes us the same (rather than what makes us different), and what things connect us as human beings. “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” ~James Baldwin
